As noted in an earlier post, we are extending Burlington’s tradition of “sister cities” to the brewing world. Our newest sister brewery is La Loca Juana in Castillo de Iscar (Valladolid), Spain. As far as is known, this is the world’s only beer brewed in a castle.

The brewery is named after Joan the Mad, daughter of Ferdinand & Isabel, 16th century queen of Spain who was confined to a nunnery in later life due to mental illness. A brewery named after a queen is a fitting sister brewery to QCB!
La Loca Juana currently makes 2 beers: La Loca Rubia is a 4.5% European Pale Lager, nicely hopped and fruity with lively effervescence. La Hermosa Pelirroja is a 5.5% Red Ale which is more malt forward.
Sounds like it would be great for the sister breweries to share recipes with each other, since we probably won’t get a chance to import their beer. That way, we can taste their brews here in Vermont 🙂
Very cool! Love the concept of ‘sister breweries’, and seems like a cool brewery too!
