Back in 1990 or so, a six-episode series called “The Beer Hunter” was broadcast on the Discovery Channel. In one episode, author Michael Jackson visited what was then the only steinbier-producing brewery in the world, Rauchenfels Brewery in Franconia (see the 17:09 mark of this link).
Just a few years later, we began to recreate this unique beer in small batches (20-50 gallons). Here’s our old friend Rich Evans (aka the Monk of Underhill) dunking some hot rocks back in ’98 during our fifth or sixth Steinbier brew session.
Now, at Queen City Brewery, we hope to bring our Steinbier to you in a somewhat regular way, perhaps 3-4 times each year. We are pleased to note that the latest batch is ready, and it is delicious! Please join us this weekend for a taste, a pint, or a growler to go. It will go quickly, and the next batch won’t be available until October or November.
Going to pick some up at Brewfest Beverage today. I got a case of fresh Rauchenfelser at an inn in Marktoberdorf ten years ago before it went bye-bye. It was incredible.
